Boat 'house-warming' this weekend

Can you believe it? The last works are now underway at the boathouse to complete the redevelopment, with the builders working on the fire hydrant this morning meaning extra care needs to be taken when accessing the RRC bay. It really is a hive of activity there currently.
We now need to make the final preparations to be ready for the grand opening next Sunday 5th October. If anyone is available and would like to help next Saturday between 10 and 12 we would appreciate some help with a bit of cleaning and organising a few things. With many hands it really shouldn’t take too long.

Club Housewarming Pressies
Finally, are you wondering what you should bring to the party as a “pressie” to mark this momentous occasion? Then we have some great ideas for you at our online gift registry.
 It’s password protected: 1863.
It’s available for friends of Richmond Rowing Club to contribute something if they chose to help with the ‘boat house warming’ and to celebrate the achievement of our exciting redevelopment project.
I look forward to seeing many of you next weekend for the celebration.

Building handover update

We have been waiting for the fire service main to be connected before the builders can hand over the boathouse to RRC. While the boathouse looks finished, the builders are still rectifying defects, a usual end of project process.
Member access to the  boathouse remains as only the boat bays and changerooms until handover. The boathouse may look completed, but it is still under the builders insurance and responsibility, not RRC’s. It also does not have a functioning fire service, hence our limited access.
SE Water has now confirmed that they will do the mains tapping next week and Lloyd Group have confirmed that they will have completed all works by Wednesday 1 October. The building surveyor will have all documentation ready on Wednesday to complete the handover to RRC.
RRC will then be able to start handing out fobs to those who have applied for them. Don’t worry if you don’t have a fob, you can still apply for one or just rely on other members of the squads to open up.

RRC Selection Criteria

After considerable process and  collaboration with Sue Chapman Popa (Coach Mentor) along with the Richmond Coaching team, please find the updated 2014 RRC selection criteria for crew racing.
Please direct questions to your coach or the Head of Rowing.

New access arrangements for boathouse

At the end of September, we will be switching over to a new fob system for access to the boathouse and keys will no longer be used. This system gives RRC better security for the building than simply keys.
The committee has formalised the procedure for obtaining a fob as we need to keep records of exactly who has what fobs. The new policy and procedure for obtaining a fob is available on the documents page of the website.
Please note that there is a fee to obtain a fob, covering the club’s cost to purchase fobs and also a security deposit which is refundable when the fob is returned to the club.
If you wish to obtain a fob, please read the policy and complete the form attached to it. Forms need to be returned to the Secretary. Please make your deposit and fee payment directly into the RRC bank account with your name and the word “Fob” in the payment description.
The next committee meeting is 23 September, so please get your form in early if you wish for your application to be considered at this meeting.

Unclaimed property will be removed Monday 15th September

Just a quick note to everyone to say you may have noticed some bags of lost property appearing in the changing room this weekend.
Please note this is all the unclaimed property from the locker room clear-out before the redevelopment began. You have ONE WEEK to reclaim anything that belongs to you or we will be disposing of/or passing on to a charity shop unwanted items.
You have until the end of next weekend, so make sure you check before camp.
Thanks

Redevelopment and Access Update 1 September

We will be moving back into the original part of the rowing shed next week which is fantastic.
We will be buying new furniture as part of the project so we need a hand on Friday morning to chuck out all the old tables and chairs and any other junk we have in the boathouse and you will get a sneak preview of how good it is. Time to be confirmed.
Once we are in, it is common to find some things don’t work quite properly. If this is the case, DON’T try to fix it. Everything is under warranty and builders’ guarantee and we will lose that if we try to fix things ourselves. If you find something does not work or does not seem right, please just email me on [email protected]. I can then follow up with the architects and builders.
Please wait until you are notified via this blog page before you start accessing the hall area. It’s tempting but it is still a building site until it is formally handed over!
Works this week:
–          Installing the concrete screed and then grass on the deck
–          Finishes to new stair
–          Finishes to paintwork
–          Completion of carpeting
–          Defects inspection and rectification process commences

RRC Club Calendar 2014/15

I am very pleased to be able to share with you the 2014/15 season calendar for RRC. I encourage you all to use this as a guide to help plan the upcoming rowing year and mark those all important dates in your diaries.
I can not promise there won’t be any alterations/ammendments over the course of 11 months but the committee has worked hard to try to lock in the important dates so you all have a good knowledge of what we have to look forward to this year. With the number of active rowers we are seeing at training currently I am feeling very confident that we will have a great year.
Can I just remind/advise you all to check the events listings on the website and the online, interactive club calendar throughout the year which does include more details regarding events and will be kept updated.
Also if anyone has ideas about more events rowing, social or fundraising or would like to offer themselves as a volunteer to organise or help co-ordinate any of these events please let me know, it would be greatly appreciated .
So download the calendar now and stick it on your wall.

Access Update – No access this Friday 22 August

Please note that there is no access to  the boathouse this Friday 22 August at any time as there will be cement screed poured inside the building preventing access.
Other than Friday, there will be no changes to access until after Friday 5 September when we hope to be given a provisional Certificate of Occupancy for the original part of the building.
We expect to have complete access to all areas of the new building in late September after the fire service main has been connected. Unfortunately this is reliant on scheduling by SE Water and cannot be brought forward.
The builders expect to complete works in the next 2 weeks and then defect resolution (a standard process) will occur in the week after, leaving us the boathouse ready for our use after 5 September. There is plenty of work still happening – the plywood ceiling in the new gym and classroom, painting, carpeting, finishing the balcony and pergola and general fitting off plus tidying up the external areas.
Thanks for everyone’s patience while the building works are happening. I think everyone will be wow-ed by the boathouse when we regain access.

Redevelopment Update 6 August

Access continues to be restricted – members enter through the RRC bay and up the back stairs and may only access the changerooms. Thanks to everyone for observing the safety requirements of having building works ongoing while we use the building. It remains very important that no-one enters the building site section of the building.
The building is starting to look more like the finished article but there is still lots of work going on inside to get it finished off. The builders are still about 5 days behind schedule meaning that completion will be end of August. However, there are some external works that will be completed after this date as we have to replace the fire service main. This requires road excavation and is expected to be done in late September.
We expect to have power back after 14 August. Please note there will be no power at the boathouse on 13 August while the new power connection is made. Continue reading “Redevelopment Update 6 August”
