Rules of association changes 2014

The rules of association sets out the rights of members and operating powers of a club. As a formal club operating as a not for profit organisation Richmond Rowing Club is bound by these rules and recent changes to the Associations Incorporation Act have required us to revise and update our rules. The committee with a great deal of help from Emma Catford, as head of our strategic planning subgroup for leadership and governance, have drafted a revised copy of our Rules of Association taking into account our new legal requirements and updating some areas.
We are asking members to take this opportunity to review the rules (see the attached pdf at the bottom of this article) and offer any feedback to myself and/or the committee in the next couple of weeks before we submit our revised rules to the membership with an explanatory document prioir to the AGM.
We will then be proposing a motion at this years AGM, Saturday July 26th to accept the new Rules of Association, there will be time at the meeting to discuss thoughts/opinions on the changes but I would appreciate any feedback as early as possible to enable us enough time to incorporate any changes. These rules will then need to be submitted to Consumer Affairs Victoria to ensure they are complete and comply with the new Associations Incorporation Reform Act.
At this pont I will just highlight a couple of the changes that have been proposed that I believe people will be most interested in:

  • New modern purposes of the association
  • Details on the use of proxies for voting at general meetings
  • Alteration to the committee structure – with Head of Club Development, becoming Facilities Coordinator and the inclusion of a new role entitled Fundraising Coordinator.
  • Inclusion of the use of technology for meetings

Richmond Rowing Club Planning for 2014-15

Evaluate and plan
Let’s evaluate and look forward

The 2013-14 season may be officially over (don’t forget to buy your tickets now for next Saturday’s wrap up and celebration at the Kingston Hotel) but before you know it we will be frantically preparing for another blockbuster season with regattas, camps, fundraising and social events.
It’s important for us all to take the time over the Winter break to evaluate what we have done well this season, what we can improve on next season and most importantly look forward to what we would like to achieve next season. The committee is asking for your input with this and we invite you all to participate in this very quick survey to give us an overview of your thoughts. Your feedback and input is vital for the success of this process.
The results of this survey will be analysed and discussed at this years planning day which will occur on Saturday the 14th June. The venue will be the home of Geraldine Goss in Hawthorn, as our clubhouse will be undergoing major exciting improvements at this time, please contact me for the details. We would like to invite you to join us to help plan and constructively evaluate Richmond Rowing Clubs performance. If you are interested in getting more involved (perhaps standing for the committee next season) we would love to hear from you. Could you please let me know if you are able and intend to attend this day by emailing [email protected] so we have an estimate of numbers. Have you visited the new RRC website yet?

Richmond Rowing Club is proud to announce the activation of our new website. Still found at www.richmondrowing.com.au we have a newly designed site where we are hoping you will find lots of helpful information.
For example, check out the new calendar and events pages helping you plan your rowing and social diaries. For fundraising, redevelopment and regatta updates check out what’s happening via the blog.
For those of you competing in Banks Masters regatta next weekend click on the event page to link to the try booking seat fees site and don’t forget to note the RRC boathouse bar will be open after racing on Saturday 29th March.
This is an exciting development from our communications sub committee formed after last years club strategic planning and I hope to be able to bring you more updates as we build on other areas from the plan. I would like to say a huge thank you to Aaron Massey for all his hard work in designing the site and everyone who has offered help, input and time.

Introducing the new RRC feedback and suggestion process

Do you have an idea/innovation, suggestion, compliment or general feedback to pass on to the RRC committee?
A member has proposed that we offer a feedback and suggestion form and so the committee will be trialing this over the next few months. The form is available here, at the clubhouse,  or on our new website on the documents page and can be completed and returned to the committee via [email protected] or dropped into the secretaries box (located in the hallway beneath the First Aid Cabinet). The committee will then review them at monthly committee meetings and contact you with a response. Continue reading “Introducing the new RRC feedback and suggestion process”

Access update

Please keep changeroom doors locked to protect your valuables.
The builders, Lloyd Group, have requested that members ensure the changeroom doors are kept locked at all times during the construction works. This is as a precaution because the building will be open many more hours than it usually is and the builders will not know whether someone entering the building is a member or not.
Builders things in the hall
The builders have a water fountain, suncream etc set up in the hall for their own use. All the builder’s things are labelled “Lloyd”. Please make sure you don’t mistakenly use the builders things when you are getting ready for a training session.

Redevelopment Update

Week 1 commencing 10th Feb

  • There will be very limited works on site.
  • The builder Lloyd Group will establish on site with the erection of security fencing and site sheds.
  • Power will be run internally in existing Bay 2 to service the sheds.
  • Access via the rear door will no longer be possible. The internal rear stairs can still be used. RRC members and MLC should only use the front access points.
  • Access for Melbourne Rowing Club members via their rear door will be maintained.
  • Any rowing club equipment located immediately external to the RRC shed needs to be relocated.

Week 2 commencing 17th Feb

  • Surveyors will set out the site
  • Site establishment will continue
  • Some initial excavation will commence in late Feb.

Building Contract Signed

At a small event at the boathouse on Tuesday afternoon, the building contract with Lloyds Group was signed for the redevelopment works. This is the final set of agreements that need to be executed before building works commence next week.
MLC Acting Principal, Margaret Horton, thanked RRC for our valued partnership with MLC and outlined how excited MLC is that the project is finally happening. She also thanked City of Melbourne, FMSA Architects and Lloyd Group, as did Karen Doggett.
RRC President, Karen Doggett also thanked MLC for the partnership we have with them and spoke of the anticipation of the redevelopment at RRC.
