Happy Holidays!
Gas works on Tuesday 2 December
There will be some remedial gas works at the boathouse on Tuesday 2 December so you may see workmen around.
The gas will be turned
off for a short time while the pipes are reconnected at the end of the works.
Boathouse Warming Purchases
Thank you to everyone who purchased items on the Boathouse Warming Gift List. We are busy organising the purchase of these items and you will find that the crockery and serving bowls and platters are already at the boathouse (and have been used for recent club events!).
RRC has received a generous donation of a coffee machine from Thalia (thanks Thalia!) and we hope that you are enjoying coffee on the terrace after Sunday morning training. For those that made a donation to purchase a coffee machine, we would like to redirect your donation to another item on the list as not all items were purchased by members. Be assured that your donation will still go towards an item that was on the list that helps set up the boathouse for your use.
The sound system for the gym was fully funded by members and will be purchased in the next few weeks to help make those ergos more enjoyable!
Women's Changerooms
We have had an inquiry about the MLC girls using the RRC changeroom and whether this is the arrangement with MLC.
We have agreed with MLC that the Senior girls will use the RRC changeroom which means that approximately 40 girls will be using it. Any MLC girl may use the toilets in the RRC changeroom as at times there may be large queues in the MLC changeroom with the number of junior girls compared to the number of toilets.
Sprint season is almost here…..
Thanks to all those who completed the sprint season survey, if you haven’t done it already please take 5mins to do it now (survey) as it will really help us to plan for upcoming events. Some more fun regattas are not far away!
Unfortunately looking at the responses we do not have enough interested people to attend the Hamilton regatta on the first weekend in December. Instead we will be launching the sprint season with club races at 10am on Sunday 7th December (squad training at 8am for those keen to get in some extra rowing), followed by some brunch, $5 a head. Please sign up as you would normally using mysportsplanner for both/either 8am and 10am events and if you are able to offer any help coordinating club races or brunch please let Justin know.
P.S. I know head racing is still at the forefront of most people’s minds and good luck to everyone over the next two weeks in both Melbourne Head and Head of the Yarra!
Melbourne Head
This weekend an amazing squad of tigers will take to the river in the Melbourne Head regatta. Everyone has been training hard and it has been great to see so many people at the clubhouse for this Head racing season.
Don’t forget after all the racing is done we will be opening the doors of our fantastic clubhouse to the Melbourne rowing community and welcoming friends and family to enjoy an afternoon on the terrace, with the bar open and some sausages sizzling. Please spread the word and if you are able to help on the bbq for an hour or so let me know [email protected]
Sprint Season – Rowers Intention Survey
I know everyone is fully focused on the head racing season at the moment but with the great commitment and numbers of participants we are seeing down at the club everyday at the moment we want to ensure we carry on the momentum into the next part of the season. We have a great base of fitness and skill and forward planning for the next part of the season will only help the tigers grow stronger.
Would you believe it but he sprint season is only a few weeks away. You may recall completing a survey earlier this year for the head racing season. Well it’s now time to do the same for the sprint season.
Please take the time to help us to know your rowing goals.
Click here to take the survey now.
Thanks for your participation!
Venue Hires
A quick update on venue hires as we are starting to get lots of bookings.
We have appointed 5 caterers to use the RRC Boathouse as a venue for bookings. You can see information relating to these on the Venues page of the website. These caterers manage all aspects of a venue hire for us, giving us a professional image.
All caterers have access to the boathouse for the purpose of showing potential clients the venue and also for setting up and holding functions. Mainly clients will visit during the day when most rowers are not around, but if you do see people who are clearly looking at the boathouse as a venue, please just let them continue – the caterers know everything they need to in order to sell the venue.
We are putting all our bookings onto the calendar on the blog so that you know when the boathouse will be booked. Venue hires are a major fundraiser for us – potentially worth a new boat a year – so please be considerate when a venue hire is in progress.
During a venue hire:
– You can still access the changerooms and gym as normal via the back stairs.
– You can open the wall between the gym and classroom if the classroom is not being used for the function but please ensure that all the blinds in the classroom are down.
– Please keep the changeroom, gym and internal boat bay doors shut to ensure security of your and the club’s possessions.
Caterers will have access to set up for a function from 2 hours before the start time. Once they start setting up, please do not enter function areas.
Caterers will close up after a function. However, rowers should close up the boat bays as usual and leave via the rear doors.
Thanks for you help in making the most of our fundraising opportunity from venue hires.
Swim Test
A swim test is being held at at 1pm Sunday 16 November, Kerferd Road Pier, South Melbourne beach. The distance is 50 meters with no time limit in clothing that approximates to what you would row in.
This is a COMPULSORY test for all club rowers so everyone who hasn’t done it yet should make every effort to do so.
Any questions please contact Justin.
