On the weekend Richmond rowers and coxes braced the heat in Rutherglen. What an amazing weekend had by all. Once again the Richmond tigers had a strong showing across multiple races, with success in both sculling and sweep, masters and grade racing. It was a weekend of firsts for some, not only some peoples first time competing in this regatta but also new coxes testing out their racing skills on the water. They did a great job. Well done to Sarah, Jemma and Amanda who were constantly up and down the lake! With both Sarah, cox of the mixed quad with Sophie, Micheal G, JL and Amy and Jemma, cox of the women’s masters quad of Michelle, Karen, Corrine and Anthea picking up some coxing bling.
The women’s D four (pictured) of Caroline, Thalia, Jemma and Virginie, coxed by Michelle came through in fine style to win their first ever medal racing a boat named after their proud coach. Over the course of the weekend there were also wins for the masters double of Michelle and Karen and numerous successes for Gerry in the masters single, double quad and four, coxed by Bec.
While also battling other crews to the finish line, everyone was also battling the 36-38 degree temperatures. Lots of sunscreen and cold water helped us all survive a fabulous weekend. Well done to everyone involved for such an amazing weekend, thanks to Charlie and his team of boys for towing the trailer and being a constant helpful happy group and also John Latham and Anthea who took on our BRO duties for the weekend.
