Massive thanks to everyone who helped out this morning and congratulations on a smooth operation to fit everything back into the RRC bay. We continue to have access to most of our fleet so people can continue to row when the shed is open as advised previously.
Can I ask people to take extra special care if using the Rod Henley or Lucy Crunden which have been returned to the top rack of the East wall. Please be aware due to the new eye beam at the front of the shed the clearance height to get the Rod Henley down is quite small so take note.
Also a reminder that we still require people to complete the sign in/out book when taking a boat from the shed. This is now located on the steps on the left hand side of the shed near the eights.
Great job again everyone today and hope to see you all down at the sheds again soon, with the building work making great progress it won’t be long until we are fully functional in a beautiful boathouse.
AGM – 11am Saturday 26th July – Change of Venue to Mercantile Rowing Club
Unfortunately we have been informed by our builders that due to the current site works occuring at the Richmond Rowing Club and due to a lack of power to the building we will be unable to hold this years AGM within our boathouse.
We have however been kindly offered the use of Mercantile’s boatclub and so we will be relocating a couple of doors down for the meeting on Saturday 26th July at 11am. Please see the previous blog post for details of the meeting and items to be discussed. We hope to see as many of you as possible present. We will be taking the opportunity to discuss some of the work that has been ongoing to plan for the upcoming season and update everyone on the progress.
Access update and help required this Saturday – 12th July 9am
As many of you will be aware we have been working hard to enable those people still wishing to train over the Winter break to have access to the fleet during our redevelopment project. The builders are making progress and you can see the huge scale of this project now but unfortunately the upstairs of our shed still remains unaccessible and entry is only possible through the boat bay roller doors (which are however new and shiny).
We have been accessing our fleet in the MLC bay while works proceeded however MLC will be returning to rowing next week (Thursday 17th July) and as a result we need to move everything back into our original bay THIS WEEKEND. Unfortunately our hardworking captain has been whisked away to Manilla for work and so I am looking for volunteers to help me do this on Saturday morning, 12th July from 9am. Many hands make light work so I am hopeful it will not take too long.
Whilst Barry is away only Michelle Joy has a key to open up the shed, she alone has been inducted for the worksite and therefore is the only member of RRC with permission to open the boatclub. Currently the shed will be open for those wishing to row on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 6am, Saturday’s Winter sculling and Sunday all club training from 8am. Please remember to use the signout book if you are rowing at these times. If you have any questions regarding this arrangement or wish to offer your help on Saturday morning please contact me, [email protected]. Everyone’s help, understanding and patience during this time is really appreciated. We will keep you updated on any changes to this situation as soon as they become available.
You gave us feedback and we’ve listened!
The message was clear following our planning day so we’ve been working with extended groups to get ready for the upcoming season.
As a club we have prioritised taking action to rejuvenate our squad structure. You can expect additional training flexibility and a united club training culture. We will have more crews on the water together, racing one another and pushing each other to succeed.
The goal is to unite members through training, to improve our skills on the water and have fun while doing it. Things are moving quickly. We plan to launch the new season as soon as possible once we have access to all our fleet and boathouse. Keep an eye on the blog for more information and make sure you come to the AGM on Saturday 26th July (10am at the clubhouse) to hear more about our plans and get involved.
So what’s next? Click here and tell us what your goals and expectations are for the coming season. Be quick we don’t want to miss you off the list. It may be cold outside at the moment and the thought of putting your feet in the Yarra may not fill you with joy but Winter is the ideal time to start to build fitness and plan for the Spring Head racing season which always looms onto the calendar very quickly at the start of a new season. For example there’s only 2 months until Salty and those rowers who want to be out in a quad competing at Essendon could be out training now if we know that you want to aim for that regatta. Also this year is special because Victoria is hosting the World Masters Games between the 9-12th October in Ballarat. Members aged 27 or over may like to compete in this competition as well and so it would be helpful to know numbers for planning for these events.
So what are you waiting for, complete the survey.
Save the Date – Sunday Oct 5th!
As you will have all hopefully seen the boathouse redevelopment is moving at pace now (even despite the weather this week). There is still lots to do and a big thank you to everyone who has helped get us this far.
We still need more funds to purchase the racking for this new area and it is not too late for you to donate using this ASF form to make a tax deductible donation. Click through now, complete the form and email or send it to Anthea, our Secretary, [email protected]. Every bit you can donate will help us towards our target $20,000.
We have now fixed a date to celebrate and officially hold “The Grand Opening” of the new boathouse and it is Sunday 5th October, so make sure you save the date! You will notice it is in our online calendar along with a draft of upcoming events for the new season.
I am currently recruiting volunteers to help be involved in organising the event. Could I ask anyone who would like to offer their ideas and help to promote, organise and make this event the huge celebration it deserves to contact me, [email protected] and we can start the planning.
Successful season review and planning
I wanted to thank everyone for their input either through completion of our survey or by their attendence at this years planning day.
We had almost 20 people take part in the planning day all offering their ideas and suggestions to help make next season at Richmond another fun and successful year. The committee is currently looking at taking this feedback forward and we hope to be able to present to you some of our goals and priorities going forward at this years AGM on July 26th.
I wanted to offer a special thanks to Lucy Crunden who ran and facilitated the whole day and Geraldine Goss who let us take over her house for the day.
RRC season review survey
Very quick note to you all to say I wil be taking down the RRC season review survey tomorrow and analysing the results before this Saturday’s planning day.
If you have thoughts, opinions, criticisms, suggestions that you would like us to take into account when planning for next season NOW is the time to let us know.
Unfortunately if people don’t tell us we can not address your ideas.
So if you haven’t done so already please complete the survey today.
Thanks!
Rules of association changes 2014
The rules of association sets out the rights of members and operating powers of a club. As a formal club operating as a not for profit organisation Richmond Rowing Club is bound by these rules and recent changes to the Associations Incorporation Act have required us to revise and update our rules. The committee with a great deal of help from Emma Catford, as head of our strategic planning subgroup for leadership and governance, have drafted a revised copy of our Rules of Association taking into account our new legal requirements and updating some areas.
We are asking members to take this opportunity to review the rules (see the attached pdf at the bottom of this article) and offer any feedback to myself and/or the committee in the next couple of weeks before we submit our revised rules to the membership with an explanatory document prioir to the AGM.
We will then be proposing a motion at this years AGM, Saturday July 26th to accept the new Rules of Association, there will be time at the meeting to discuss thoughts/opinions on the changes but I would appreciate any feedback as early as possible to enable us enough time to incorporate any changes. These rules will then need to be submitted to Consumer Affairs Victoria to ensure they are complete and comply with the new Associations Incorporation Reform Act.
At this pont I will just highlight a couple of the changes that have been proposed that I believe people will be most interested in:
- New modern purposes of the association
- Details on the use of proxies for voting at general meetings
- Alteration to the committee structure – with Head of Club Development, becoming Facilities Coordinator and the inclusion of a new role entitled Fundraising Coordinator.
- Inclusion of the use of technology for meetings

Boathouse access update
Thanks to everyone for all their help this weekend with clearing out the boathouse.
As of now we do not have access to our boat bay or any of the upstairs level. If you left things in a locker they have been removed and stored in the bar and can not be claimed until we regain access in July.
Please be advised for health and safety reasons that access to the boathouse is restricted until Wednesday as the builders are setting up for demolition works. We will update you on access arrangements later this week once finalised with the builders.
Temporary changeroom and toilet facilities will be available from Wednesday at Mercantile Rowing Club, there will be four access cards, 2 for mens, 2 for womens. Please contact the captain for more information [email protected] Please note that the arrangement with Mercantile does NOT include access to lockers or usage of their gymnasium.
It is vital during this time that everyone makes sure to sign in and out in the boat log book which is located on the workbench at the rear of the MLC bay to prevent accidentally being locked out of the shed. During this time we are operating a reduced fleet all of which is located at the front of the MLC bay.
We have the Ian Taylor and the Tim Evans for eights
Don Dudgeon, DEMN and Simon Crunden for coxed quads/fours
Roberto Perrillo coxless quad
Siberian Tiger, Lucy Crunden and Rod Hendley for doubles/pairs.
Club oars will also be in the MLC bay.
For any queries please contact Barry Campbell via [email protected] or 0407551503.
