Richmond Rowing Club’s Annual General Meeting will be held at the clubhouse on Saturday 28th July at 10 am, followed by club races and a BBQ for lunch when we will also be opening the bar. During the AGM, the committee members will briefly go through some of the highlights of the year, as well as a summary of the club’s financial situation and the main achievements compared to the goals we set out last year. This usually takes less than an hour and we warmly invite all members of the club to attend.
The AGM is also the opportunity to elect new members to the Committee and all positions are available for re-election. To present yourself, the are required to have been a member of the club for more than 2 years and are willing to help out with the club’s organisation. If you are interested, feel free to chat to any of the current Committee members to get some more background information. The Committee positions are:

  • President
  • Vice-President
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • Head of Rowing
  • Captain of Boats
  • Fundraising Coordinator
  • Facilities Coordinator
  • Ordinary Member (two ordinary member positions are available which assist with a number of areas including New Member Coordination and Learn To Row Coordination)

If you wish to present yourself for election, please complete a nomination form (found on the documents page of our website) and submit it to the secretary at least 14 days prior to the meeting (BEFORE 13th July).
It should be a fun day combining some formal business with splashing around for club races, and a nice BBQ to top it off. The bar will also be open for refreshments at usual club prices.

Mega Month of March

Happy long weekend all! This week there is lots going on at the club so here’s a little round-up and reminder to sign up to help us with organisiation:

  1. Thursday night beer and pizza – following normal Thursday night training we will be opening the bar and ordering some pizzas for anyone who wants to stay around and enjoy some relaxed post-exercise drinks and chat.
  2. Saturday Quiz night – it’s the club’s big annual fundraiser and we’re looking forward to a big night involving mind boggling trivia, games and auction prizes, make sure you contact Shern to book your table/ticket.
  3. Sunday morning Club Races – the fun continues this time on the water with club races. Please sign up and add a comment on sportsplanner if you are able to help out. The plan is to use the infamous sorting hat to select crews and we need people to arrive at 9:30 to get organised and on the water. As usual all this events are open to everyone and the more the merrier! These short sprints will get everyone tuned up and ready to go for sprint racing at Essendon next weekend, or at least we’ll have fun trying. Brunch and prizes for the winners will follow the racing and there will be a small donation for food required (normally $5). Any volunteers to help with races and brunch please contact me, president.

So sign up now on sportsplanner and I look forward to seeing you all at the clubhouse this week.

Sprint season is almost here…..

Thanks to all those who completed the sprint season survey, if you haven’t done it already please take 5mins to do it now (survey) as it will really help us to plan for upcoming events. Some more fun regattas are not far away!
Unfortunately looking at the responses we do not have enough interested people to attend the Hamilton regatta on the first weekend in December. Instead we will be launching the sprint season with club races at 10am on Sunday 7th December (squad training at 8am for those keen to get in some extra rowing), followed by some brunch, $5 a head. Please sign up as you would normally using mysportsplanner for both/either 8am and 10am events and if you are able to offer any help coordinating club races or brunch please let Justin know.
P.S. I know head racing is still at the forefront of most people’s minds and good luck to everyone over the next two weeks in both Melbourne Head and Head of the Yarra!

Club races – Sunday 16th March

Following on from what no doubt will be a great evening at the clubhouse for the RRC Fundraising Quiz Night, we are having club races on Sunday March 16, reviving an old tradition the crews will be selected entirely at random from across the club, literally using a hat for the process!  There will be a lunch after for $5 so it promises to be a fun day at RRC.  Meet at 9:30am (please note this is an earlier start time than was first advertised due to a few conflicting commitments). We will aim to start at 10am and it will be great to see lots there.
Please complete the survey and respond NO if you’re NOT coming. This means we don’t have to second guess numbers attending for lunch.  Which means we don’t waste money on food that isn’t required!

Sunny Summer in September

Rowers turnout for Club Races

It was great to see so many people out on the river on Sunday in beautiful conditions for this season’s first time trial. The black and gold was an impressive site both on and off the water.
A big thank you to Paul for capturing the event and the attached photograph of the membership. I also want to pass on my thanks to all those who showed the great RRC spirit by volunteering to help run the event Justin, Kathy, Tom, Gerry, Carolyn, Claire and Vicki.
Also a special mention to Dennis’s for his cameo in the women’s quad, our double scull of Michelle and Corrine who were the only crew to navigate the 7km course coxless and Matt from Learn to row who subbed into a boat after only 3 lessons! He was one of 12 to do their first club time trial on Sunday and I think the day was a big success.
The official times are listed below next to the relevant cox, line honours go to the men’s coxed quad at 34.51. So that’s the time to beat…..
