New Season – Training changes as of Sunday 27 July

The club’s new training season officially starts this coming Sunday. Please read this post to find out what is happening. As you will have seen from previous posts, the committee and a bunch of volunteers have been working hard to make this coming season a good one for the club in every sense.
We will launch the season plans as part of the AGM this Saturday. Be there for more info. Straight after the AGM, there will be the first coaches meeting for the season to discuss the plans from the coaches’ perspective generally, and to go through the details for the first few weeks.
There will be a few changes from what we’ve been doing up to now, and the new routine should shake you out of winter’s torpor and maybe even a few bad habits.
As of this Sunday, weekly training will be: Continue reading “New Season – Training changes as of Sunday 27 July”

Boathouse access update

Thanks to everyone for all their help this weekend with clearing out the boathouse.
As of now we do not have access to our boat bay or any of the upstairs level. If you left things in a locker they have been removed and stored in the bar and can not be claimed until we regain access in July.
Please be advised for health and safety reasons that access to the boathouse is restricted until Wednesday as the builders are setting up for demolition works. We will update you on access arrangements later this week once finalised with the builders.
Temporary changeroom and toilet facilities will be available from Wednesday at Mercantile Rowing Club, there will be four access cards, 2 for mens, 2 for womens. Please contact the captain for more information [email protected] Please note that the arrangement with Mercantile does NOT include access to lockers or usage of their gymnasium.
It is vital during this time that everyone makes sure to sign in and out in the boat log book which is located on the workbench at the rear of the MLC bay to prevent accidentally being locked out of the shed. During this time we are operating a reduced fleet all of which is located at the front of the MLC bay.
We have the Ian Taylor and the Tim Evans for eights
Don Dudgeon, DEMN and Simon Crunden for coxed quads/fours
Roberto Perrillo coxless quad
Siberian Tiger, Lucy Crunden and Rod Hendley for doubles/pairs.
Club oars will also be in the MLC bay.
For any queries please contact Barry Campbell via [email protected] or 0407551503.

Club races – Sunday 16th March

Following on from what no doubt will be a great evening at the clubhouse for the RRC Fundraising Quiz Night, we are having club races on Sunday March 16, reviving an old tradition the crews will be selected entirely at random from across the club, literally using a hat for the process!  There will be a lunch after for $5 so it promises to be a fun day at RRC.  Meet at 9:30am (please note this is an earlier start time than was first advertised due to a few conflicting commitments). We will aim to start at 10am and it will be great to see lots there.
Please complete the survey and respond NO if you’re NOT coming. This means we don’t have to second guess numbers attending for lunch.  Which means we don’t waste money on food that isn’t required!

Girl Power – Tough racing in challenging conditions at Victorian State Championships

With a team of 46 including rowers, coxes and coaches descending on Lake Wendouree the Richmond tigers were represented strongly in both numbers and presence at last weekends Victorian State Championships. With a final tally of 7 medals (3 gold, 1 silver, 3 bronze) RRC had a very successful days racing and here’s a few of the highlights.
The female C8+ was represented with two crews from Richmond, both a C and D crew. Ballarat was living up to its reputation, with strong winds and an overcast, cold morning, leaving the girls shivering as they prepared to get on the water. Regardless of the temperature, everyone involved went into the straight final with fire in their bellies. It's Henley, Dah-ling!

As always, RRC was out in its most fashionable race wear on Saturday for the Australian Henley regatta. The regatta has been held in Melbourne since 1903 and is based on the format of the Royal Henley Regatta in England. The format involves knock out rounds of two crews racing side-by-side from 800m down to the judge’s box.
Although Richmond’s participation in the event has been light in recent years, Saturday the club had representation from Ray Dennis in the Men’s Masters 8+ and from Geraldine Goss in the Women’s Masters 8+, while fielding a full crew of tigers in the Women’s C8+.
