Call to all members, family and friends

We invite all members, their families and friends to the club on Sunday 6th May 2012. We will be hosting a variety of events to interest and attract anyone with a connection to RRC or rowing in general.

At 9am club races will commence, 11am will be the boat naming ceremony for the ‘Don Dudgeon’, followed by lunch served in the hall and then welcoming the graduates of the Learn to Row course.

Club races are conducted over a very short and sharp course of 250 meters. All crews race off against each other to find an ultimate winning crew. Attendance at club races contributes towards the points for season awards. The races are great to view from the club and are very exciting as crews battle for line honours. Rowers’ family and friends may find this is the perfect opportunity to come and see what your rowing, which seems to get so much of your time and attention, is all about.

The boat naming is for the ‘Don Dudgeon’. Don Dudgeon was an exceptional member at RRC over many decades. His passing last year was a sad time for many current and past members of RRC and the rowing community in general. We will be very pleased to have a boat in our shed with Don’s name on it and, like the man, will serve our crews very well for a long time to come. This boat is new to our fleet and can be rigged as 4+ or a 4x.

A healthy appetite should have been worked up after the races and ceremony, so a hearty lunch will be served in the club hall. The bar will be open to serve celebratory drinks and perhaps pay back bets from club races lost and won. During lunch an update can be provided on our redevelopment plans and our 150^th anniversary activities.

Our current Learn to Row course, with a bumper crop of 16 attendees, concludes at 2pm. It will be another opportunity to congratulate and welcome the graduates, as they will soon be forming our next Development Squad.
