More good news on the redevelopment. MLC and RRC have both signed the Lease and associated agreements. The RRC-MLC Lease is now with City of Melbourne for final signatures.
MLC have given their approval for the Tender to go ahead and we expect to go to tender as soon as the documentation is completed in the next few weeks.
At this stage we anticipate that building works will start early in 2014, once City of Melbourne has signed the RRC-MLC Lease and a builder has been appointed.
I, for one, cannot wait for the building works to start and more importantly to see our fantastic new boathouse when the works are finished towards the end of next year. More details will be available on the program of works and the impact on the rowing program when the builder has been appointed and we have negotiated with them the plan of works.
RRC Leases signed
Finally, some good news on the leases.
City of Melbourne has informed RRC that our Head Lease has now been executed by both CoM and DEPI (State Government) which is a pre-requisite for MLC and RRC to execute our lease.
On Tuesday night, RRC signed the MLC lease, financial agreement and code of conduct and MLC will sign these documents in the next few days.
We have already received positive feedback from CoM regarding the MLC lease and so we hope that the MLC lease will be fully executed by mid-October. Fingers crossed!
If this happens, we will go to tender in mid October, select a builder before Christmas and start building works as early in 2014 as we can.
We do not yet know what the level of disruption will be. Discussions with builders have certainly indicated that alot of work can be done without impacting the current operations but we expect that during the winter months there will be times when we will not have access to either parts of all of the boathouse. Much more will be known when the builder has been selected and put together their program of works.
Strategic Plan – Draft for Comment
The Strategic Planning day in June seems ages ago but a dedicated group of volunteers are still busy working on the strategic plan and the operational plan for the next 12-18 months. It’s great to see the energy everyone is bringing to this with lots of new ideas!
Here is the draft strategic plan – thanks to Aaron for presenting it in RRC style. Have a look and let us know what you think…does the plan reflect the sort of club you think Richmond should be and the areas we should be focusing on?
The plan will be discussed at the AGM on Saturday evening so come along!

Member Feedback Survey
Hopefully you have received an email with a link to our Member Feedback Survey in preparation for our strategic planning workshop on 15 June.
Your feedback is essential to help RRC plan effectively. Please complete the survey as soon as possible and definitely by Monday 10 June. It should only take 10 or 15 minutes.
If you have not received the email we apologise, we still want your feedback! Please email [email protected] and I will forward a survey link to you.
Many thanks in advance for your time to give your feedback.
Strategic Planning Workshop
In our 150th anniversary year and with the Boathouse Redevelopment slowly moving towards building works, it is a good time for us as a club to take stock and plan for our future.
We would like your help in two ways:
- Please complete the survey you are emailed before 31 May. It will help us know what you think of about RRC.
- If you are interested in participating in the strategic planning process, please contact a committee member.
We will be holding a professionally facilitated workshop on Saturday 15 June between 10am and 4pm to work through a strategic planning process with a view to clarifying:
– Our positioning and identity
– Our Vision for the future
– The highest priority actions we need to take to start to achieve our vision
We anticipate that this session will answer high level questions and result in a strategic plan that covers the same level of content as Sydney Rowing Club’s strategic plan does (but of course with RRC’s vision, actions, set of considerations etc). We are seeking a cross-section of members from across RRC to join the committee for this planning session.
We will then hold a more operational planning session later in the year that will create a detailed plan for the next 12-18 months and this part of the process will be repeated every year.
Any questions, please talk to one of the committee.
We would like to thank City of Melbourne for the provision of a grant to cover the cost of professional facilitation for this strategic planning process.
150th Website
Wow! It has taken ages to get the 150th website up and running. We hope you like it. (Just go to www.richmondrowing.com.au)
You can find information about the major events and our history on the website. Watch this blog and Facebook for regular updates, interesting facts and smaller events.
Redevelopment Update
The City of Melbourne has signed our Head Lease agreement and hopes to organise with the State Government Department of Sustainability and Environment to get signatures from the State within the next few weeks (this is a process that will take months if they cannot get special dispensation so we are very grateful to the City of Melbourne for trying to organise this).
The MLC-RRC sub-lease is yet to be submitted to City of Melbourne but is in the final stages of review and we hope to submit within the next fortnight. This must then be approved at a Council meeting before going through the same signing process as the Head Lease.
