Joining A Crew

Richmond Rowing Club has training squads from beginners through to competitive grade rowers. The club supports Masters rowing and many of our members compete in both the Club grade and Masters season.

Richmond works with each of its members to find a squad or crew that is appropriate to their desired training commitment, skill level and preference for scull/sweep. Squad or crew selection is done by squad coaches and overseen by the Head of Rowing.

Training ranges from 2 to 5 sessions per week based on squad or crew training plans. Crew members may be required to commit to additional training sessions leading up to regattas where they wish to compete.

The club’s essential selection criteria to compete in regattas are:

  • eligibility
  • commitment
  • availability
  • technical rowing ability
  • coachability

The crew is also subject to:

  • Availability of boats/oars/coxes/coach(es) for training and the event
  • The race schedule for the regatta
